Overview
Al Wissam Sweets (حلويات الوسام) is an Arabic sweets shop and kitchen in Al Maliki, Damascus. Its range covers classic Arabic sweets, knafeh, cream-filled qashta sweets, harissa and pistachio pastries, dry biscuits, savoury platters, kitchen dishes and gift boxes. We built it a fully Arabic, right-to-left digital menu that also takes orders. Customers browse the range, choose a weight, build an order and send it to the shop in a few taps on any device, with nothing to install.
What we built
- Brand-led landing hero: a dark, warm opening over a photo of the shop, with a framed card of the store interior, the tagline "نكهة العمر" ("the taste of a lifetime"), and quick buttons to open the menu or start a WhatsApp chat. Opening hours and the shop's location appear as small pills below.
- Visual category navigation: nine circular photo categories: Arabic sweets, dry biscuits, qashta sweets, savoury platters, knafeh, harissa and pistachio sweets, kitchen, new items and gifts. They switch the product grid instantly and do not reload the page.
- Product cards: each card has a product photo, the item name, a short description and a "starting from" price in Syrian pounds. Items with options carry an "Options" badge, and featured items are marked with a star.
- Weight and type options: an item sheet with a large photo, the description and a size picker (for example 500 g or 1 kg). The price updates with the choice, and each item has an optional note field.
- Full order cart: quantity controls, a subtotal and total, coupon codes and order notes.
- Pickup or delivery: delivery orders take an address and can share the customer's current location.
- WhatsApp checkout: the finished order goes to the shop as a formatted WhatsApp message, so the shop needs no payment gateway or extra app.
- Customer reviews: a star-rating and comment form that opens from a floating "Rate us" button, with a reviews section on the page.
- Contact card: WhatsApp, phone, a Google Maps link to the shop, opening hours and links to Facebook and Instagram, plus a sticky navigation bar with an "Order now" button.
- CMS-driven content: categories, items, prices, weight options, images and contact details are all managed from an admin panel. The shop can update its menu without a developer.
Design approach
The visual language follows the shop's gold logo. Near-black and warm brown backgrounds sit under gold accents and bold Arabic display type set in Cairo. The menu itself is on a clean white canvas, so the photography of the sweets stands out. A thin progress bar tracks the scroll position. The layout is right-to-left throughout and designed for phones first: the categories reflow into a two-column grid, the cards stack full width, and the cart and item details open as full-screen sheets.
Technology
- Laravel backend with an admin CMS for categories, items, sizes and reviews
- Vite-built front end with Tailwind CSS utilities, Font Awesome icons and Google Fonts (Cairo, El Messiri)
- Arabic RTL layout (
lang="ar" dir="rtl"), responsive from phone to desktop - Client-side cart kept in the browser, and order handoff through WhatsApp deep links
- Review submission with CSRF protection
