Overview
Cream Toum (كريم توم) is a restaurant on Al-Fourzin Boulevard in Damascus. It serves appetizers, salads, pasta, burgers, sandwiches and shawarma. We built it a fully Arabic, right-to-left digital menu that feels like an app and takes orders. Guests browse about 70 items in six sections, build an order and send it to the restaurant in a few taps on any device, with nothing to install.
What we built
- App-style shell: the menu runs as one screen-based app. A fixed header shows the brand, a live "Open now" status and quick WhatsApp and info buttons. A frosted bottom bar has a central button that opens the full category list from anywhere.
- Food-led landing hero: a full-bleed dish photo with the bilingual creamtoum / كريم توم wordmark, the tagline "تجربة طلب ذكية بلمسة واحدة" ("a smart one-tap ordering experience"), live counts of sections and items, and the restaurant's location.
- Visual category tiles: large photo tiles for appetizers, salads, pasta, burgers, sandwiches and shawarma, each showing how many items it holds. A tile opens its section as a new screen with a smooth transition and no page reload.
- Sub-category filters: bigger sections such as sandwiches have filter pills for their sub-groups, for example grilled, fried and hot dogs.
- Product cards: each card has a food photo, the item name, its ingredients and the price in Syrian pounds, with a quick-add button.
- Item detail sheet: a large photo, the full ingredient list and price, an optional note for each item, and previous/next arrows to move through the section without closing the sheet.
- Full order cart: quantity controls, a subtotal and total, coupon codes that are checked by the server, and order notes.
- Pickup or delivery: guests choose how they want to receive the order. Delivery orders can share the guest's current location.
- WhatsApp checkout: the finished order goes to the restaurant as a formatted WhatsApp message.
- Order from your table: a dine-in flow where guests choose their table and can add a name and phone number. The order is sent straight to the restaurant's system, and the guest gets an order number back.
- Reviews and contact: an info screen with customer reviews, a star-rating and comment form (reviews appear only after the restaurant approves them), and phone, WhatsApp and location cards.
- CMS-driven content: sections, sub-groups, items, prices, photos, coupons, tables and contact details are managed from an admin panel. The restaurant can update its menu without a developer.
Design approach
The interface uses a deep forest-green palette that picks up the green surfaces in the restaurant's food photography. It adds mint-green and warm gold accents and large Arabic display type. Category tiles and product cards have thin gold outlines and a soft glow, so the dishes stay the focus. The layout is right-to-left throughout and designed for phones first: the categories sit in a two-column grid, the cards stack full width, and the cart and item details open as native-feeling sheets.
Technology
- Laravel backend with an admin CMS for the menu, coupons, tables, orders and reviews
- Vite-built front end with Tailwind CSS
- Arabic RTL layout (
lang="ar" dir="rtl"), responsive from phone to desktop - Client-side cart kept in the browser, with order handoff through WhatsApp deep links or a dine-in order API
- Server-side coupon checks, plus visit and item-view tracking for menu insights
- Review submission with CSRF protection and a moderation queue
